Rite Aid, the popular pharmacy chain currently facing financial difficulties under Chapter 11 bankruptcy, has made the tough decision to close sixteen additional locations, with four of them in Pennsylvania.

One of the affected stores is located on Claude A. Lord Boulevard in Pottsville, Schuylkill County, making it the second closure in the city this year after the downtown location shut down.

In their statement, Rite Aid stressed their commitment to operating efficiently and serving the needs of customers, communities, and employees. These closures are part of the company’s strategy to reduce rent expenses and improve overall financial performance during the bankruptcy process overseen by the courts.

Rite Aid also owns the property in Pottsville, where one of the closures will occur. Aside from Pottsville, stores in South Whitehall Township near Allentown, Wayne, and Philadelphia are also set to close.

Earlier this month, Rite Aid shut down its York location, joining the more than 250 stores that have closed since last October.

The recent closures, detailed in court filings, span several states, including Pennsylvania, California, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, and Virginia.

These closures reflect Rite Aid’s ongoing efforts to navigate financial challenges and streamline operations, ensuring the company’s long-term success in an ever-changing market.
