Governor Ron DeSantis held a news conference at the University of Florida to discuss the recent pro-Palestine protests and encampments occurring at universities nationwide.

DeSantis emphasized Florida’s stance, stating, “We don’t do that in the state of Florida,” in reference to protests allegedly crossing the line of free speech by advocating violence.

Recent demonstrations have led to arrests, including nine individuals at the University of Florida and three at the University of South Florida in Tampa.

While acknowledging a brief attempt at encampment at Florida University, DeSantis noted its swift removal within minutes.

The governor also highlighted HB 1473, a recent bill aimed at enhancing school safety measures, including new perimeter and door-safety requirements set to be implemented before the next school year.
