Pennsylvanians are participating in their primary election today, with several House primary races drawing significant attention.

One of the most closely watched contests is the Democratic primary in the 12th District, centered around Pittsburgh. Incumbent Representative Summer Lee, known for her advocacy for a Gaza cease-fire, faces Bhavini Patel, who has criticized Lee’s stance on Israel.

Representative Lee, aligned with the progressive “Squad,” drew attention for her early criticism of Israel’s actions in Gaza. While this stance has garnered support, it has also sparked controversy among some Jewish voters in her district.

However, national pro-Israel groups have largely stayed out of the race. Patel, despite being significantly outraised, has positioned herself as an alternative to Lee.

In the First District, north of Philadelphia, Republican Representative Brian Fitzpatrick, known for his moderate stance, faces a primary challenge from Mark Houck, an anti-abortion activist.

Fitzpatrick, who represents a district carried by Biden in 2020, has won his previous elections comfortably. However, Houck’s nomination could potentially make the district more competitive for Democrats due to the issue of abortion.

Additionally, primaries in the Seventh and 10th Districts could set the stage for competitive general election races. In the Seventh District, three Republicans are competing to challenge Democratic Representative Susan Wild, while in the 10th District, six Democrats are vying to face Republican Representative Scott Perry.

Although the presidential and Senate races are on the ballot, they are not competitive, with nominees already decided. Polls are open until 8 p.m. Eastern time, and the results of these key House primaries will be closely watched.
