New York Governor Kathy Hochul has initiated a state investigation into District Attorney Sandra Doorley following a traffic stop controversy. Hochul alleges that Doorley attempted to abuse her public position to avoid accountability during a traffic stop on April 22.

An officer tried to pull over Doorley, the Monroe County district attorney, but she refused to comply and drove home instead. Footage from the officer’s camera captured the conversation with Doorley in her garage after he caught up with her.

In the video, Doorley acknowledges speeding but explains that she chose not to pull over on the road she was traveling on. The officer emphasizes that it’s not her decision and expresses his concern.

Doorley also mentions that she will handle the situation herself since she will be prosecuting the case. Towards the end of the video, she apologizes to the officer for the incident.

In response to the controversy, all nine members of the Rochester City Council have penned a letter to State Attorney General Letitia James, urging her to investigate the incident further.
