The 2024 primary election in Pennsylvania has concluded, with significant outcomes across various statewide races.

Presidential Primary

In the presidential primary, both major parties saw their candidates running unopposed. Former President Donald Trump secured the Republican nomination after Nikki Haley suspended her campaign earlier in the year. On the Democratic side, President Joe Biden faced no primary challengers.

Senate

Incumbent Democrat U.S. Senator Bob Casey and Republican challenger David McCormick both went unopposed in their respective primaries. Casey’s bid for a fourth term is anticipated to be closely watched, as control of the U.S. Senate hangs in the balance.

Congress

All 17 congressional incumbents, comprising nine Democrats and eight Republicans, sought re-election. While most incumbents faced no primary challengers, a few notable contests emerged within their parties.

Democratic Representative Dwight Evans of Philadelphia secured victory against Tracey Gordon in the 3rd District. Additionally, Republican Representative Brian Fitzpatrick won the nomination in Pennsylvania’s 1st Congressional District.

In the 7th District, three Republicans competed for the chance to challenge Democratic Representative Susan Wild. State Representative Ryan Mackenzie emerged victorious in this contest.

Meanwhile, in the 10th District, Democratic nominee Janelle Stelson emerged as the winner among six contenders, aiming to challenge Republican Representative Scott Perry in the general election.

Attorney General

In the attorney general race, Democrat Eugene DePasquale and Republican Dave Sunday emerged as the primary winners. DePasquale, a former state auditor general, secured victory over several challengers, while Sunday, York County’s district attorney, won the Republican nomination.

Treasurer

Democrats nominated Erin McClelland to challenge Republican state Treasurer Stacy Garrity. Despite being outspent by her party-endorsed rival, McClelland clinched the nomination.

Auditor General

Republican incumbent Tim DeFoor seeks a second term, while Democrats nominated State Representative Malcolm Kenyatta to challenge him in the general election.

These primary results set the stage for highly anticipated matchups in the November general election, shaping the future landscape of Pennsylvania politics.
