Nashville and the surrounding Middle Tennessee region are grappling with the onslaught of severe thunderstorms, with multiple rounds expected to persist through the night until early Thursday morning.

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for select areas of Middle Tennessee until 3 a.m. Thursday, warning of potential hazards including damaging winds, large hail, flash flooding, and tornadoes.

Flash flooding poses a significant threat, particularly in regions already saturated by heavy rainfall, predominantly along and north of Interstate 40. While the forecast remains subject to uncertainty, the weather service emphasizes the possibility of adverse conditions for some residents.

The overnight forecast maintains a grim outlook, with continued risks of tornadoes, flash flooding, and large hail. The National Weather Service underscores the importance of remaining vigilant as the severe weather event unfolds.

The impact of these storms is already evident, with reports of road closures, impassable routes, and power outages across Middle Tennessee. Rutherford County Schools have announced closure for Thursday due to flooding and other storm-related issues. Additionally, the son of Rutherford County’s Director of Schools is in critical condition following an accident during the storm.

Emergency management officials in Maury County have opened a shelter station at Riverside Elementary School for displaced families, with transportation services provided. Maury County Public Schools will remain closed on Thursday in response to the severe weather conditions.

As the storms intensify, the National Weather Service has extended tornado watches and warnings for various counties, urging residents to exercise caution and seek shelter. Reports of tornado sightings and damage have already surfaced, including in Columbia, where a tornado touched down, causing significant destruction.

The severity of the situation is underscored by the tragic loss of life, with one fatality reported in Maury County and several injuries. The community mourns the loss and prays for those affected by the storms.

Amid the chaos, emergency responders and utility crews are working tirelessly to assess damage, clear debris, and restore essential services. Thousands remain without power, underscoring the widespread impact of the severe weather event.

As Middle Tennessee braces for further storms and potential hazards, residents are urged to stay informed, heed warnings, and prioritize safety. The resilience and solidarity of the community will be instrumental in weathering this turbulent period.
