The Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) has finalized the deployment of body-worn cameras for troopers operating in three southeastern counties of the state.

Troop K, covering Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties, will now equip all patrol troopers with body cameras, along with updated mobile video recorders in their vehicles. These enhancements are scheduled to be fully implemented by the end of March 2025, as announced by PSP.

Colonel Christopher Paris, Commissioner of the Pennsylvania State Police, emphasized the significance of the body-worn cameras in bolstering public trust in law enforcement.

He stated, “The use of body-worn cameras demonstrates our commitment to ensuring police interactions are respectful and constitutional. The cameras also provide concise capture of evidence in criminal cases and enhance our training opportunities.”

With this development, Troop K joins Troops A, B, G, and H in adopting body cameras, marking a milestone in PSP’s initiative to enhance transparency and accountability in law enforcement. The procurement of the cameras is facilitated through a five-year contract with Axon, a company based in Arizona.

The expansion of body camera usage means that PSP troopers across 19 counties in Pennsylvania will now be equipped with this technology, spanning regions such as Adams, Allegheny, Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Centre, Cumberland, Dauphin, Delaware, Fayette, Franklin, Fulton, Greene, Huntingdon, Indiana, Juniata, Mifflin, Montgomery, Perry, Philadelphia, Somerset, Washington, and Westmoreland counties.
