BROWN COUNTY WLUK – This weekend marked the youth deer hunting season in Wisconsin, bringing families together to enjoy the outdoors.
Although the main 2024 deer hunting season kicks off later this year, early October provides a perfect chance for hunters like Ty Rabas and his 10-year-old son, Mack, to get a head start.
It brings me so much joy to pass on what my dad taught me to him and my other kids, said Ty Rabas.
On Sunday, the father and son team ventured onto public land in Brown County for the youth deer hunt, hoping to find a buck. Mack had already successfully harvested a buck last month in Michigan.
Sometimes, it feels like you’re not going to get anything, but then right before sunset, they show up, Mack said.
Mack chose deer hunting over watching the Packers game and is thrilled to spend quality time with his dad.
I just like being with him. He teaches me so much when we’re out in the woods, Mack added.
Wisconsin’s youth deer hunt gives kids 15 and younger the chance to learn hunting skills.
Lukas Mounce’s seven-year-old daughter, Maliyah, had her first big hunting success, harvesting an eight-point buck in the Fox Valley on Saturday.
I’m so proud I got that buck, and now my little brother really wants to go hunting with me,” Maliyah shared.
For Lukas, the moment was unforgettable.
Her eyes lit up when she found it. She turned around, and her eyes were huge—like pie plates. That was the most exciting part for me, he said.
