Delaware is preparing for a significant winter storm expected to bring 6 to 8 inches of snow across most of the state from Sunday night into Monday morning.

The storm, predicted by the National Weather Service, could impact areas differently based on its exact track. If the storm shifts south, Sussex and Kent counties could see heavier snow, while a northern track would bring more snow to New Castle County.

There’s also a possibility of mixed precipitation in southern Delaware if the storm moves further north.

The forecast includes the potential for up to a foot of snow in some parts of the state, but the National Weather Service has stated that confidence in the forecast remains low due to the storm’s changing dynamics.

A winter storm watch is in effect for the entire state until Monday night, with the storm expected to linger throughout Monday.

This storm could rival the heaviest snowfall in over a decade for some regions. Wilmington has only received a total of a foot of snow in the past two years, making this storm potentially significant for local snowfall totals. Snow accumulation in Bridgeville from a recent storm was around 1.6 inches.

As the storm progresses, Delaware residents are encouraged to share snow photos with local media.
