Virginia Beach has clinched a prestigious spot among the top 10 places to live in the United States, a recognition bestowed by US News and World Report, with the city securing the eighth position on this esteemed list.

This accolade has been met with widespread celebration among both residents and local officials, who attribute Virginia Beach’s allure to a unique combination of factors that make it stand out.

Residents like Alyssa Chriselli appreciate the city for its beautiful beaches and the friendly nature of its inhabitants. “I like the beaches and the people here are really nice,” Alyssa remarked.

Chris Ardolino echoed this sentiment, noting the city’s diverse array of attractions: “Great people, great parks, great restaurants, great nightlife, great sports and recreation. Has a little bit of everything.”

Central to Virginia Beach’s appeal is its robust job market, boasting an unemployment rate of 4.1 percent as of May, which is notably lower than the national average of 5.3 percent. Major employers such as Stihl, Sentara Healthcare, and the military play a pivotal role in sustaining the local economy and providing employment opportunities for residents.

Mayor Bobby Dyer expressed his deep pride in the city’s recognition, underscoring the indispensable role played by the military in shaping Virginia Beach’s identity.

“We take a lot of pride in our military presence. They are part of the DNA of our community,” Mayor Dyer remarked. “Everyone who serves in the armed forces and their families enriches our community’s fabric.”

In addition to its vibrant community and economic vitality, Virginia Beach earns commendation from US News for its above-average schools and impressively low crime rate, scoring an impressive 8.9 out of 10 when compared to cities of similar size.

Looking optimistically towards the future, Mayor Dyer emphasized ongoing developments that promise to further enhance the city’s appeal. “I really think our best days are yet to come. We’ve got the Sub C cables coming, broadband coming in… I’m telling people, ‘don’t let your friends, your kids move to Northern Virginia, we’ll find you a job right here.'”

Virginia Beach’s recognition as a top place to live underscores its blend of coastal beauty, economic prosperity, and strong community spirit. These qualities continue to draw residents seeking a high quality of life and contribute to the city’s ongoing acclaim and desirability on a national scale.
