Officials in Western Washington urged drivers to slow down and drive carefully on Saturday morning after a series of crashes caused by unexpected summer rain.

Trooper Kelsey Harding from the Washington State Patrol reported that Snohomish County Troopers had responded to four accidents in two hours. Speed and hydroplaning were factors in three of these crashes.

One of these accidents caused significant delays on northbound Interstate 5 for over an hour while the roadway was cleared.

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) also noted a collision on northbound I-405 that led to traffic backups. They reminded drivers to stay attentive.

In Fall City, a crash on Preston Fall City Road Southeast led to a rescue operation by Fall City Fire and Eastside Fire & Rescue. Eastside Fire advised drivers to be cautious due to the slippery conditions.
