Vermont’s legislative session is set to begin on Wednesday, and there’s growing momentum behind Independent Rep. Laura Sibilia’s bid for House Speaker.
Sibilia, representing Dover, has garnered support from 21 Democratic, Progressive, and Independent lawmakers.
She is running for the position following last year’s significant increase in education property taxes.
Incumbent House Speaker, Democrat Jill Krowinski, has focused on issues including education, healthcare, and housing.
To win the speaker’s position, a candidate must secure a majority of votes from the 150-member House. The House Republicans’ stance on the race remains uncertain.
