(Thechieftainspear) – A house fire in Ventura on Monday afternoon left one cat dead and resulted in minor injuries to a resident, according to fire officials.
The Ventura City Fire Department responded to reports of a fire at a home in the 500 block of Briarwood Terrace at approximately 2:18 p.m.
Resident Escapes Through Window
A person inside the home at the time of the fire managed to escape by climbing out of a window but sustained minor injuries in the process. Officials did not disclose the individual’s identity or provide further details about their condition.
When firefighters arrived, they found thick smoke billowing from the windows of the single-family residence. Upon entering, crews encountered intense flames concentrated on the first floor.

Firefighters Contain Blaze, Save One Pet
Firefighters launched an aggressive attack to bring the fire under control and prevent further destruction to the home. While searching the property, crews—assisted by animal control—were able to rescue one cat. Unfortunately, another cat was later discovered deceased inside the house.
Home Deemed Unsafe for Occupancy
Due to fire damage, officials deemed the home uninhabitable until the Ventura Building and Safety Department could assess its structural integrity. The Red Cross was called in to assist the displaced residents with temporary shelter.
No other injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation .
