The article highlights the recent decision by Utah Governor Spencer Cox to raise the flags at full staff for Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration on January 20, 2025.

Afterward, the flags will be lowered to half-staff in honor of former President Jimmy Carter, who passed away in December 2024.

Flags will remain at half-staff through January 28, 2025, as a tribute to Carter’s life and legacy. Cox has invited citizens and organizations in Utah to join in the tribute.

The article also notes a defiant move by U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson, who confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) that flags at the U.S. Capitol will be flown at full-staff for Trump’s inauguration, despite a White House proclamation that would lower them in honor of Carter.

Trump expressed dissatisfaction with the possibility of flags being lowered during his inauguration, accusing Democrats of wanting the flag at half-mast for political reasons.

Several other governors, including those from Alabama, Florida, Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota, and Texas, have also ordered flags to be raised in honor of Trump’s inauguration.

However, flags in Oklahoma were raised after Carter’s funeral as part of the tribute to the former president.
