TORRANCE, CA (Thechieftainspear) – AKT Trading Inc., a California-based company, has announced a recall of multiple prepared vegetable products over concerns about potential contamination with Clostridium botulinum, the bacterium that causes botulism.

The affected products, manufactured by Choshiya Honten Co. Ltd., were distributed to Tokyo Central and Marukai stores throughout California, including locations in Los Angeles, San Diego, and Cupertino.

Among the recalled items is the Abura-Itame Zhasai Prepared Sichuan Vegetable, an 8.8-ounce packaged product sold under the Choshiya brand, along with several Japanese Pickles products. The issue was first identified on February 18 at a Tokyo Central store, according to Food Safety News.

The recall was prompted by the absence of a “Keep Refrigerated” label on the packaging. Without proper refrigeration, these products could allow dangerous bacterial growth, posing a serious health risk. Consumers are strongly urged not to eat these items, even if they appear normal. Instead, they should be discarded or returned to the store for a full refund.

Botulism is a rare but life-threatening illness that can lead to muscle paralysis and even death if left untreated. Symptoms include blurred or double vision, difficulty swallowing, and muscle weakness. Anyone experiencing these symptoms after consuming the recalled products should seek medical attention immediately.

AKT Trading Inc. is working alongside the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to resolve the issue and protect consumers. For additional details, customers can contact AKT Trading Inc. at 310-715-2174 or email [email protected].
