A murder case in Northern California remains unsolved after three years. Authorities are reminding the public about a $50,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.

The Butte County Sheriff’s Office was called on July 3, 2021, to help California State Parks officers with a homicide investigation at Bidwell Canyon Campground, near Lake Oroville State Recreational Area. They discovered that 20-year-old Tyler Dickson from San Pablo had been fatally shot while sleeping in his tent during a camping trip.

The sheriff’s office has continued to investigate and requested a reward through Governor Gavin Newsom’s Office to encourage tips. In 2022, the $50,000 reward was approved and is still available.

Authorities believe the shooter was among a large group of people Tyler was camping with, all from out of the area. Despite the time that has passed, they remain determined to solve the case and seek justice for Tyler and his family.

Tyler, a well-known athlete who graduated from El Cerrito High in 2019, was set to receive a football scholarship. His godfather, Andre Williams, described him as a “gentle giant” from a great family and expressed how tragic his death is.

Williams mentioned that Tyler was on a trip with his girlfriend’s family and was shot in the abdomen while in his tent. He described the incident as puzzling and frustrating due to the lack of answers.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Mike Worch at 530-538-7671.
