The University of Michigan’s rowing team wrapped up the 2024 NCAA Championships with an impressive seventh-place finish, demonstrating their skill and determination in the Petite Finals races.
Taking on the competition at Harsha Lake in East Fork State Park, Michigan’s rowers showcased exceptional talent and grit throughout the championship regatta. Their performance was highlighted by victories in the first varsity four and second varsity eight events, solidifying their position among the nation’s top programs.
Accumulating a total of 90 points, the Wolverines delivered their strongest showing since 2021, securing their ninth top-10 finish in the past decade. Both the first varsity four and second varsity eight boats secured seventh place overall, surpassing expectations and surpassing their initial seeding.
Despite facing challenging weather conditions, including light morning rain and cooler temperatures, Michigan’s rowers remained focused and composed. Competing against tough opponents, they showcased outstanding teamwork and technique, securing decisive victories in their respective events.
In the first varsity four race, Michigan seized an early lead and maintained it throughout the course, ultimately clinching victory over strong rivals like California and Brown.
Similarly, in the second varsity eight event, Michigan demonstrated remarkable resilience, fending off challenges from competing crews to cross the finish line in first place.
While the first varsity eight race witnessed fierce competition, with Michigan facing off against powerhouse teams such as California and Yale, the Wolverines displayed their competitive spirit, finishing a close third behind California and Syracuse.
