In a statement, Trump praised Scharf as a skilled attorney who played a key role in defending him against election-related legal challenges, including achieving a historic Supreme Court decision.
Scharf’s background includes serving as a federal prosecutor, working on judicial confirmations during Trump’s first term, clerking for two Federal Appeals Court judges, and earning top honors from Harvard Law School and Princeton University.
Scharf recently lost the Republican primary for Missouri Attorney General to Andrew Bailey.
In a related announcement, Trump also named Dean John Sauer as the United States Solicitor General.
Sauer previously served as Missouri’s solicitor general from 2017 to 2023.
