A 5-year-old child in Virginia Beach is reportedly recovering after accidentally shooting himself, according to police. The incident took place just before 6:30 p.m. on Friday at a residence in the 5600 block of Larry Avenue.
The child, who allegedly shot himself in the hip, was promptly taken to Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk. The police, however, have not released any new information about the boy’s condition.
Investigators suspect that 72-year-old Richard Bauserman sustained self-inflicted wounds from the gunshot. He has been charged with felony child neglect, and Child Protective Services is in the process of developing a family safety plan.
