In Watertown Township, Michigan, a devastating tragedy unfolded when a vehicle collided with a group of 16 family members, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and leaving the rest hospitalized. Authorities suspect the driver may have been intoxicated, compounding the sorrow of this already tragic hit-and-run.

The incident occurred on a Saturday night, approximately 12 miles northwest of downtown Lansing. The victims, aged between 2 and 61 years old, were struck by the vehicle, leading to the untimely loss of a 30-year-old man from Grand Haven and a 42-year-old man from Grand Ledge. Fourteen others sustained injuries and were promptly transported to nearby hospitals for urgent medical care.

As of Monday morning, the identities of the victims have not been disclosed, but their ages have been shared by the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office. Among the injured are two toddlers aged 2, as well as children aged 3, 6, 6, 7, and 8, along with adults aged 16, 27, 28, 32, 33, 38, and 61.

While six family members remain hospitalized, eight have been discharged as of Sunday night, according to updates provided by the sheriff’s office.

Following the tragic incident, the driver fled the scene but was later apprehended several miles away. Although the driver’s identity has not been officially released, reports suggest that a 35-year-old woman from Gratiot County is currently held in connection with the hit-and-run at the Clinton County Jail. Investigations indicate that alcohol may have played a role in the crash.

The devastating news has prompted an outpouring of sympathy and support on social media platforms, with many expressing their condolences and offering prayers for the affected family.

While law enforcement has not disclosed details about the family’s background or origin, it was noted by a representative from Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan that the family was returning from a trip along the nearby Looking Glass River when the tragic incident occurred.

In response to the heart-wrenching event, Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan has launched a cookie donation drive to support the responding agencies, aiming to provide assistance to those affected by the tragedy.
