SALT LAKE CITY ABC4 – Three Utah residents tragically lost their lives in a whirlpool while on a canyoneering trip in California’s Sierra Nevada mountains on Friday, as reported by the Tulare County Fire Department.

Firefighters were called to the Seven Teacups hiking area in Tulare County around 5:20 p.m. on Friday for a possible drowning. Upon arrival, they found three people deceased.

The victims were identified as David Bell, Jeannine Skinner, and Peter On.

According to David Bell’s sister, Cyndi Bell, the three were rappelling in the area. During their last descent, they entered a pool of water. Jeannine went first and got caught in a whirlpool. Peter jumped in to save her, but he too got caught. David then jumped in to rescue them both, but all three drowned.

They were able to retrieve their bodies within about seven minutes and performed CPR for around 20 minutes, but they couldn’t revive them, Cyndi wrote on Facebook.

A GoFundMe has been set up in David’s memory, and an obituary for Peter has been posted online. A Facebook group has also been created in memory of all three victims.

To honor their lives, an event called “Dancing Through Life will be held at the Classic Fun Center in Sandy, Utah, on Wednesday, August 28, at 10 p.m. The venue is located at 9151 S 255 W, Sandy, Utah.
