PHOENIX — A Texas woman was recently arrested for her involvement in a fraud case in Arizona, authorities said on Tuesday.
Maria Rivera, 64, was arrested in Carrollton, Texas, in early July. She faces charges of fraud, theft, and identity theft, according to the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YSCO).
The investigation began when a Prescott-area victim reported an email hack that led to a $40,000 unauthorized bank transfer.
Detectives found evidence linking Rivera to the $40,000 and obtained a warrant for her arrest. They collaborated with the Carrollton Police Department to arrest Rivera at her workplace and search her home.
During the search, authorities found evidence of additional frauds committed by Rivera. Texas authorities will investigate those cases, and federal agencies were notified since the crimes crossed state lines.
