An intense police pursuit culminated in utter mayhem on the 405 Motorway when a woman, who had evaded officers in Santa Monica and Brentwood, collided head-on with several vehicles.
The incident occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m. when a patrol vehicle, in response to a disturbance call, was struck by a van driven by the woman, as reported by the Los Angeles Police Department.
The driver escaped from the scene, leading the police to start chasing them at 4:49 a.m. Sky5 recorded the pursuit on Santa Monica Boulevard early in the morning, with multiple patrol units following the driver.
Throughout the chase, the driver made aggressive attempts to collide with patrol vehicles and verbally confronted officers from the window of the van. At one point, she even pursued a patrol vehicle down a street.
In spite of the police’s efforts to halt the van by employing pit manoeuvres on the northbound 405 Motorway, the driver persisted in driving in the opposite direction and ultimately collided head-on with another vehicle near Sunset Boulevard in the Brentwood area. Despite the collision, she persisted in driving at full speed and crashed into several vehicles that were stopped on the motorway.
One vehicle was severely damaged and left the van disabled. A woman stepped out of the van, made her way onto a big rig, and perched herself on the hood until officers apprehended her.
Law enforcement experts noted that she seemed to be exhibiting signs of drug influence. The injured woman was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation. Two officers who were injured in the incident are now in stable condition after being transported to a hospital. Fortunately, it appears that none of the innocent drivers involved in the collision suffered any serious injuries.
Commuters on LA’s West Side faced disruptions as the northbound 405 Motorway remained closed for several hours during the investigation. The SigAlert was lifted when the lanes reopened shortly before 9:45 a.m.
