On Saturday, May 25, Michigan State Police fatally shot a 44-year-old man from Oceana County who allegedly threatened to kill everyone while armed with a bomb.

The incident began when troopers were called to a home on Skeels Road in Oceana County following reports of the man acting erratically. The man left the residence and was later found walking near Skeels and Nichols roads.

When the troopers approached, the man fled into the woods and re-emerged carrying a wired device, threatening to kill everyone. Police quickly contained the situation on the side of the road and evacuated nearby residents for their safety.

The Michigan State Police Bomb Squad and Emergency Support Teams were called to the scene and spent several hours negotiating with the man. During the negotiations, the man was perceived as a threat, leading an Emergency Support Team member to fire a single shot, which struck and killed him.

Authorities are currently working to render the device safe. The incident is under investigation by the Michigan State Police’s 5th District Special Investigative Section.
