Seth Meyers recently took aim at Elon Musk’s endorsement of former Rep. Matt Gaetz’s bid for Florida’s attorney general, calling it absurd. Musk praised Gaetz, citing his big brain, spine of steel, and an axe to grind as qualities suited for the position.
Meyers, in his Closer Look segment, sarcastically mocked these attributes, especially referencing rumors about Gaetz’s appearance at the Republican National Convention, suggesting his “big brain” claim might be overshadowed by the botox rumors.
Meyers argued that someone with an axe to grind should not hold the nation’s top law enforcement position, likening it to going to a doctor whose personal life is clouded by drama.
He also criticized Musk’s backing of figures like Gaetz and Dr. Mehmet Oz, Trump’s controversial pick for overseeing Medicare and Medicaid.
Meyers pointed out the dangers of billionaires like Musk using government for personal gain, dismantling regulatory agencies, and undermining programs crucial to the working class.
He expressed frustration with Democrats, accusing them of not opposing these billionaire-backed appointments forcefully enough, citing Senator Chris Coons’ support for Musk as an example.
Meyers wrapped up his segment by lamenting that the lack of effective opposition from Democrats against these moves could fuel the corruption and inequality that frustrate many voters.
