Senior Airman Roger Fortson Identified as US Service Member Shot and Killed by Florida Police

The U.S. Air Force has confirmed the identity of the service member tragically killed during an altercation with law enforcement in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. Senior Airman Roger Fortson, 23, stationed at the Special Operations Wing at Hurlburt Field, lost his life at his off-base residence.

According to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, the incident unfolded when a deputy responded to a disturbance call and encountered Fortson, who was armed. The deputy, acting in self-defense, fatally shot Fortson, who was subsequently transported to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

Senior Airman Fortson was assigned to the 4th Special Operations Squadron, and his untimely death has sent shockwaves through the Air Force community.

The 1st Special Operations Wing of the Air Force has stated its commitment to providing support to Fortson’s family during this difficult period. Additionally, resources are being mobilized to assist all those affected by this tragic event.

As investigations into the incident continue, the deputy involved has been placed on administrative leave, standard protocol in such cases, pending further inquiry.
