Sen. Thom Tillis made a strong statement on the Senate floor, denouncing Russian President Vladimir Putin and contrasting his stance with that of former President Donald Trump, who had called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy a dictator” and criticized U.S. aid to Ukraine.
Tillis, a longtime advocate for Ukraine and a vocal critic of Putin, shared emotional accounts from his recent trip to Kyiv with Sen. Jeanne Shaheen.
They witnessed firsthand the brutal impact of Russia’s invasion on Ukrainian civilians, including mass graves and indiscriminate killings.
Tillis emphasized the need for continued support for Ukraine, asserting that Putin’s actions are inexcusable and that the world must hold him accountable for the suffering he has caused.
He also expressed concern over the growing pro-Putin rhetoric, stressing the importance of confronting such views with the grim reality of Putin’s actions, especially in places like Bucha.
