School Closures Anticipated Due to Severe Weather Forecast

In light of the expected powerful and intense thunderstorms set to hit South Georgia and parts of the Big Bend, schools in the affected regions have declared closures for Friday, May 10, 2024.

The Seminole County School System in Seminole has made the decision to close due to the unpredictable weather conditions. They are urging students to remain at home for their own safety.

Decatur County Schools in Decatur have decided to close schools due to forecasts of sustained winds reaching 75 mph. This decision has been made to prioritise the safety of students, faculty, and staff. We will provide updates on the status of scheduled events later in the day.

Grady County has recently made the decision to close schools and offices, which unfortunately means that evening events like the CHS Band Concert and FFA Banquet have been cancelled.

Due to the anticipated severe weather conditions, both Thomas County Schools and Thomasville City Schools have made the decision to close for the day. Strong wind gusts, expected to reach speeds of 55-75 mph, pose a potential risk during the morning hours.

The Taylor County School District has made the decision to cancel school today. This is due to the forecasted high winds, with the National Weather Service predicting gusts of up to 54 mph between 7-11 a.m.

Valdosta City Schools, in consideration of guidance from local emergency management officials, have made the decision to close. The focus is on prioritising safety and encouraging everyone to stay informed through official channels.
