San Mateo County law enforcement is investigating a roofing scam that has affected elderly residents, following the arrest of three men from Virginia.

The suspects, identified as Charlie Anderson, David Anderson, and Darren Temple, were allegedly behind the fraudulent operation using fake contractor licenses to overcharge victims for substandard and unnecessary roofing work.

The investigation began in November 2023 after a victim reported that his mother was grossly overcharged for roofing services that were never completed. This led to the discovery that similar scams had been carried out across the Peninsula.

The suspects posed as legitimate companies, including Statewide Roofing and Siding and Teco Roofing and Masonry, offering free roof inspections that quickly escalated into expensive and unnecessary repairs.

The police confirmed 29 charges against the suspects, who remain in custody on no bail. They are scheduled for arraignment on December 5.

The investigation into the scam, which is ongoing, has prompted police to seek additional victims. Anyone who has had roofing work done by the named companies is urged to contact Officer Thornburg at the San Mateo Police Department for further investigation.
