Since August 2024, the San José Police Department has been investigating retail thefts across the city.
They identified 46-year-old Jesus Delgadillo from San José as the person responsible for stealing over $18,000 worth of Lego sets and other items from various Target stores.
With help from the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office, police obtained a warrant for Delgadillo’s arrest. On November 14, they found and arrested him. When they searched his vehicle, they discovered stolen goods from Target.
Delgadillo was booked into jail on multiple charges of grand theft and attempted theft.
The police said that the Organized Retail Theft Detail, funded by a grant from the California Board of State and Community Corrections, plays a key role in investigating retail crimes.
City Manager Jennifer Maguire praised the police for their work in holding suspects accountable. Mayor Matt Mahan also spoke out, saying that over 40 thefts is too many and thanked the police for their efforts.
He urged the District Attorney and judges to use new legal tools to intervene earlier in cycles of crime to help offenders and ensure justice.
