PALM DESERT, Calif.(Thechieftainspear) – — A man accused of breaking into a Palm Desert home and injuring a resident more than three years ago has been taken into custody following a pursuit, authorities announced Friday.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department identified the suspect as 38-year-old Louis Moises Hernandez of Indio. Investigators recently linked him to a violent burglary that occurred in August 2021.

According to officials, the crime took place in the early hours of August 15 at a home on Mesa View Drive. Investigators believe Hernandez repeatedly entered the residence while the occupants were asleep, stealing items during multiple trips.

At one point, a resident woke up and confronted the intruder, leading to a struggle that left the victim injured. Authorities did not disclose the nature or severity of the injuries.

After the burglary, Hernandez evaded law enforcement for years until detectives positively identified him in March 2025.

On March 13, around 1 p.m., deputies tracked Hernandez to Palmwood Court. When officers attempted to pull him over, he refused to stop, prompting a police chase.

The pursuit ended when Hernandez was safely taken into custody. He was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on charges of home invasion and residential burglary.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with additional information to contact Investigator Joshua Smith at the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station at 760-836-1600 .
