A Richmond mother is speaking out about her concerns after her child came home complaining about the cold at Broad Rock Elementary School.
The school has had heating problems for several winters, and with colder weather setting in, parents are getting more worried. Tisha Erby, a parent, said her 2nd-grade son, Emanuel, keeps asking if he can bring a hat and gloves to school because it’s so cold. Emanuel even mentioned being able to see his breath in the chilly classroom.
Unlike other second and third-grade classes that learn in trailers, Emanuel’s class stays in the main building, which has ongoing heating issues. Parents say the trailer is warmer than the school building.
Erby and other parents are frustrated by the lack of communication from the school. Erby feels that if the school is experiencing heating problems, parents should be informed. She believes that when kids are cold, it’s hard for them to focus on their schoolwork.
