In a tragic case from Racine, Wisconsin, Cash’Juan Butler, 36, pleaded guilty to second-degree reckless homicide in connection with the shooting death of his brother.
Initially charged with first-degree intentional homicide, Butler is scheduled for sentencing next year.
The incident occurred on October 14, 2023, during the early morning hours near 10th and College. Police found Butler’s 39-year-old brother suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, and he later died from his injuries. A gun was located near the victim, along with a magazine for a different firearm.
Butler was apprehended hours later following a standoff in Kenosha. According to court documents, Butler had moved into an apartment with his brother and a woman due to needing a place to stay.
He claimed that he heard the couple arguing and confronted his brother, who allegedly punched him, causing Butler to fall down the stairs. Instead of leaving, Butler went back inside to retrieve a jacket and a gun. During the confrontation, he fired four to five shots as his brother approached him.
After the incident, Butler told investigators that the woman had given him a gun to hide, which was found without a magazine.
The magazine discovered at the scene matched the weapon recovered later, establishing a connection to the shooting.
This case highlights the complexities and tragic outcomes of domestic disputes, particularly when firearms are involved.
