Kamala Harris’s potential run for California governor in 2026 has generated a lot of buzz, and a recent Emerson College poll suggests she would dominate the race if she entered, with 57 percent support compared to much lower numbers for her competitors.

However, her indecision has frozen the field, preventing other candidates from gaining momentum.

Democratic strategist Steve Maviglio highlights that Harris’ track record in California, where she’s never lost an election, gives her a strong advantage, but her hesitation has left other hopefuls scrambling for endorsements and funding.

Given her mixed results in the presidential race and President Trump’s success in flipping California counties, many are questioning whether Harris might instead pursue another presidential run.

With the 2026 gubernatorial primary just over a year away, Maviglio believes she will have to decide by the end of summer to avoid further stalling the race.

It will be interesting to see whether Harris steps into the race or shifts her focus elsewhere, especially with the Democratic field already looking for a clear path forward.
