The Village of Plain City has been awarded a $5 million grant from the Ohio BUILDS (Broadband, Utilities, and Infrastructure for Local Development Success) Program to upgrade its Wastewater Treatment Facility.

The project, which is expected to cost $14 million, will increase the plant’s capacity to 1.2 million gallons per day, allowing it to serve an additional 4,900 people.

The upgrade is crucial for the growing community of Plain City, which is experiencing rapid growth and requires expanded infrastructure to meet the needs of its residents. The project will be completed in partnership with the Mid-Ohio Water-Sewer District, which will also contribute to the funding.

The Ohio BUILDS grant is part of the sixth round of funding, which has provided nearly $620 million to support local water projects across Ohio’s 88 counties since 2021.

The program is designed to support economic growth and improve quality of life by investing in critical infrastructure projects such as water infrastructure upgrades, broadband expansion, and brownfield redevelopment.

The Plain City project is one of 76 statewide projects receiving funding from the Ohio BUILDS program. The village’s mayor, Jody Carney, expressed gratitude for the grant and acknowledged the importance of the project in meeting the needs of the growing community.

The upgrade will not only improve the village’s wastewater treatment capabilities but also help protect the health and well-being of its residents. The project is expected to have a significant impact on the community and is a testament to the importance of investing in critical infrastructure projects.
