JAMISON, PA — Pennsylvania Auditor General Timothy L. DeFoor has announced the allocation of over $68 million in state aid to support volunteer firefighter relief associations VFRAs across the state.
The funds, sourced from a two percent state tax on fire insurance premiums purchased from out-of-state insurers, will assist more than 1,850 VFRAs in acquiring essential equipment, training, and insurance.
In his statement, DeFoor emphasized the importance of this funding in ensuring that volunteer firefighters have the tools they need to perform their duties effectively.
The Warwick Township Fire Department in Bucks County received $133,759.97, a reflection of the state’s commitment to enhancing local firefighting resources.
State Senator Frank Farry, who also attended the event, highlighted the significance of supporting those who risk their lives to protect their communities.
The funds were distributed to 2,501 municipalities, with regions like Southeast/Greater Philadelphia receiving $20.6 million.
This substantial investment strengthens the operational readiness of volunteer firefighters and underscores Pennsylvania’s broader dedication to public safety and emergency preparedness.
