The situation involving Walter Martinez and his enrollment in multiple public high schools despite being an MS-13 gang member and murder suspect has sparked significant outrage across Maryland.

According to the Fox45 News investigation by Project Baltimore, Martinez was enrolled in both Lansdowne High School in Baltimore County and Edgewood High School in Harford County by Child Protective Services CPS without alerting the schools to his criminal background.

The lack of communication about Martinez’s status has led to widespread criticism from officials and parents.

Harford County Executive Bob Cassilly emphasized the need for the safety of students to be the highest priority, condemning the situation as reprehensible.

Parents and community leaders have expressed their frustration, with demands for accountability and improved transparency in how such cases are handled.

The Harford County Public Schools district has stated that they would notify the school community of any threats but would not disclose details about a student’s arrest.

Baltimore County Public Schools BCPS claimed they were unaware of Martinez’s arrest, which prevented them from notifying families.

Martinez, who was charged with murder and rape but not convicted of the latter, is currently serving a 70-year prison sentence for the murder of 20-year-old Kayla Hamilton.

The case has brought to light serious concerns about the communication between CPS, schools, and the broader community regarding the safety and well-being of students.
