An Oregon man, Ryan Wilson, 41, was convicted for his role in the January 6, 2021, Capitol breach, a day that stirred intense national reflection.
Found guilty of six felony charges, Wilson’s actions included civil disorder and assaulting law enforcement with a dangerous weapon.
After attending the “Stop the Steal” rally with his father, they joined the escalating conflict at the Capitol, pushing through crowds to reach the notorious Tunnel, where some of the day’s most violent clashes occurred.
Disguised in a black balaclava, Wilson was seen aggressively confronting police around 3:00 p.m. The situation escalated when Wilson seized a pipe and used it to strike at officers behind their shields.
After being pepper-sprayed, he threw the pipe and retreated from the scene. His actions were captured by surveillance, and after an investigation led by the FBI’s Portland and Washington Field Offices, Wilson was arrested on September 7, 2023.
Wilson’s conviction is part of a broader effort to hold those involved in the January 6 insurrection accountable, with over 1,500 individuals charged since the attack.
His sentencing is set for January 16, 2025, before U.S. District Judge Trevor N. McFadden.
