A devastating incident occurred in Gaston County, resulting in the loss of one life and injuries to another individual. The unfortunate event took place on Wednesday afternoon when a tree unexpectedly fell onto a car. The incident took place just south of Belmont, at the intersection of Dixon and South New Hope roads.
The accident occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. when a sizable tree fell from the westbound shoulder of South New Hope Road onto a car travelling south on Dixon Road, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Regrettably, Jacqueline Morrison-Donald of York, S.C., tragically passed away due to her injuries at the scene. The passenger was taken to the hospital and fortunately, their injuries were not life-threatening.
Earlier in the day, the Charlotte area encountered wind speeds that surpassed 70 miles per hour. The Highway Patrol is currently looking into the details of the crash.
