North Carolina could soon join the growing list of states allowing concealed carry without a permit, with the introduction of Senate Bill 50, known as Freedom to Carry NC.
If passed, the bill would allow U.S. citizens aged 18 and older to carry concealed handguns without a permit, provided they aren’t prohibited by law from owning a firearm.
While this move is gaining traction in various states, local concealed carry instructors are concerned about the potential consequences.
Anthony Lee of ENC Protective Services highlights the importance of permit-based classes, which teach individuals about justified self-defense, legal restrictions, and where carrying is permitted.
Lee is worried that the shift could lead to an increase in violations and misunderstandings about the law, particularly as the trend of permitless carry expands across the country, following states like Kentucky and South Carolina.
