The official Christmas tree for the White House Blue Room this year will come from Cartner’s Christmas Tree Farm in Avery County, North Carolina. Since 1966, the National Christmas Tree Association has donated the Blue Room tree, and this year marks the 16th time a North Carolina tree has been selected.
Sam Cartner, whose family has operated the farm since the 1950s, expressed excitement at receiving the notification after years of competing. The chosen tree must be between 18 to 19 feet tall and no wider than 12 feet.
North Carolina boasts around 940 Christmas tree growers, cultivating approximately 53 million trees across 33,000 acres, contributing about $100 million annually to the state’s economy. However, the industry faced challenges due to Hurricane Helene, which caused damage to farms and disrupted transportation.
The White House team will visit Avery County to select the final tree from Cartner’s options, with the official presentation to First Lady Dr. Jill Biden scheduled for November 25.
