This recent development in North Carolina highlights a major victory for Attorney General Jeff Jackson in his efforts to protect citizens’ private information from what he argues is unlawful federal overreach.

The temporary restraining order prevents the Department of Government Efficiency DOGE from accessing sensitive personal data, including Social Security numbers and other financial information managed by the Treasury Department.

Jackson’s lawsuit, filed on February 7, asserts that the federal government’s new policy granting DOGE access to the Treasury’s central payment system is a violation of federal law, risking the exposure of confidential data that millions of Americans rely on.

The court’s ruling, which blocks this access and mandates the destruction of previously downloaded material by non-Treasury employees, underscores concerns about the potential vulnerability of sensitive information to hacking.

This decision is a significant step in maintaining privacy protections and preventing any unauthorized access to systems that manage crucial public services like Social Security payments, veterans’ benefits, and healthcare funding.

Jackson’s continued fight on this issue emphasizes the importance of safeguarding Americans’ data in an era of growing digital risks.
