BURLINGTON, Vt. WCAX – Federal authorities have accused a New Jersey man of illegally transporting individuals who crossed the U.S.-Canada border into Vermont.
Tyshan Murray, 32, from Union, New Jersey, entered a not guilty plea in federal court last week.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Vermont, on September 8, Murray picked up nine Irish nationals, including two young children, in his SUV after they crossed the border into Richford without authorization.
Border agents reported that the Irish citizens confessed to crossing the border and obtained Murray’s contact information from an associate in Canada. Murray has faced charges for a similar incident in New York earlier this year.
If convicted, Murray could face a prison sentence of up to five years. A judge has ordered that he be held pending further proceedings.
