New Hampshire officials are warning drivers about a smishing scam targeting E-ZPass users.

The scam involves fraudulent text messages that appear to be from E-ZPass, claiming recipients have unpaid tolls and threatening severe consequences unless payment is made quickly.

These messages include a link that may lead to harmful sites or attempts to steal personal information.

State officials emphasized that E-ZPass will never contact customers via text to request payment. Anyone receiving such messages should report them by forwarding to 7726 SPAM and then deleting them.

Drivers are encouraged to check their accounts using official channels like the NH E-ZPass website or app and report fraud to the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center.

If you encounter such messages, avoid clicking any links or responding, and rely on trusted platforms to handle toll account inquiries.
