RALEIGH, N.C. WNCN — A powerful night of music brought together musicians and fans in Raleigh on Sunday, all for a good cause. The ‘Music for the Mountains’ benefit concert at Red Hat Amphitheater raised an impressive $1,104,000, with funds directed to support those in need in Western North Carolina.
Organized by Band Together, which harnesses the power of music to benefit non-profit organizations, the event showcased a sense of community spirit.
Thorne Daubenspeck, Executive Director of Band Together, expressed excitement about the concert’s impact: We’re really excited to do our part here locally.
There’s so much need, and there’s going to be so much need for the next couple of years. What better way than to bring the community together through the power of live music.
BJ Barham, lead singer-songwriter for the band American Aquarium, shared his thoughts on the event. When people call and ask what I can do for something, I’m not good at much; I write songs and I sing songs. An event like this is something I love being a part of, he said.
All proceeds from ticket sales, food, merchandise, and a telethon went directly to the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina, which provides grants to local non-profits focused on essential services such as housing and food assistance.
Elizabeth Brazas, President/CEO of the Community Foundation, highlighted the dual impact of the concert: The fact that the musicians are gathering and using their talent to support us is inspiring. Beyond financial aid, the event also uplifted the morale of the community.
