Missing Woman from Newport News Found Dead in Maine Car: Investigation Underway

DAYTON, Maine WAVY— A 23-year-old woman from Newport News, Virginia, who had been missing in Maine, was found dead in a parked car on Monday afternoon, according to Maine State Police.

Autumn Cleveland, 23, was discovered inside a car near Goodwins Mills Road in Dayton, about 25 miles southwest of Portland. She matched the description of the missing person from Newport News.

Police received a 911 call at 3:27 p.m. reporting the discovery of her body. The Major Crimes Unit South is investigating the incident.

Authorities have stated there is no threat to the public, and Cleveland’s death is under investigation. An autopsy will determine the cause and manner of death.

According to a report by the Portland Press Herald, Cleveland had been renting a home in Maine for the weekend and had not contacted her family since Saturday evening. She was last seen on August 31 in Newport News. Police confirmed she was found in her blue 2018 Mazda CX5 with Washington state plates.
