Milwaukee Public Schools Superintendent Keith Posley has stepped down from his role, triggering a $160,000 severance payment as outlined in his resignation agreement. This decision follows the state’s announcement of potential fund withholding due to long-overdue financial reports.

The Milwaukee School Board convened a special meeting to address Posley’s resignation. As per the agreement, the severance payment will be provided in a lump sum with taxes deducted.

In addition to the severance payment, Posley will also receive any outstanding wages he had earned but not yet received, as well as accrued, unused vacation, and personal day pay, in accordance with his original employment contract terms.

In return for these benefits, Posley has agreed not to pursue any legal claims or grievances against the board. He is also bound by the agreement not to make disparaging remarks about the board, Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS), or their representatives. Furthermore, Posley has committed to cooperating in any litigation arising post the agreement’s signing.

Furthermore, the agreement stipulates that Posley cannot seek future employment with the Milwaukee Public Schools board. The release of Posley’s employment contract and resignation agreement by the Milwaukee Public Schools Office of Board Governance offers transparency regarding his departure.

This development signals a significant leadership transition for Milwaukee Public Schools and underscores the critical importance of timely financial reporting in sustaining funding and operational stability within educational institutions.
