HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) — With just a month until his inauguration, Governor-elect Mike Braun shared his plans for Indiana and how the southern region will benefit.
“I want to keep Indiana a business-friendly state,” Braun said. “But in areas like southern Indiana, where the infrastructure isn’t as developed as other parts of the state, I want to make sure we address that gap.”
Braun also discussed the growing trend of legalizing medical marijuana in neighboring states. While he expects that medical marijuana will eventually become legal nationwide, he noted that 70% of Indiana residents support its legalization.
“I think this shows that we should follow the best approach used by the 30 states that have already legalized it,” Braun explained. “It’s time for Indiana to catch up on the medical marijuana front.”
Although Braun supports medical marijuana, he believes it’s important to have a conversation with law enforcement before considering the legalization of recreational marijuana.
Eyewitness News reached out to providers in Kentucky about medical marijuana licensing. Owensboro Health shared that they will provide more information in the coming weeks.
