A man from Rio Verde could face up to 10 years in federal prison after admitting to threatening federal officials and public servants.

Michael Lee Tomasi, 37, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to making threats against various officials. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Tomasi made these threats on social media between May 2021 and November 2023. His targets included a city district attorney, a state court judge, a member of Congress, and other federal officials and law enforcement officers in Arizona and Colorado.

One notable threat came on August 26, 2023, when Tomasi threatened to shoot any FBI agents who came to his home.

Attorney General Merrick Garland emphasized the seriousness of such threats, stating that they endanger public safety and undermine the government. U.S. Attorney Gary Restaino added that Tomasi’s threats were serious, noting that he was found with a loaded handgun, other firearms, and body armor when arrested.

Tomasi will be sentenced on October 23 in federal court and faces a maximum of 10 years in prison.
