Matt Richtman Makes History as First American to Win L.A. Marathon in 30+ Years

Los Angeles(Thechieftainspear) – For the first time in over three decades, an American runner claimed victory at the Los Angeles Marathon.

Matt Richtman secured the win at the 2025 L.A. Marathon on Sunday, finishing with an impressive time of 2:07:56. He crossed the finish line three minutes ahead of runner-up Athanas Kioko.

Richtman’s triumph marks the first time an American has won the race since 1994, when Paul Pilkington finished in 2:12:13.

A former standout on Montana State University’s cross country team, Richtman hails from Elburn, Illinois. During his junior year in the 2022-2023 season, he became the third male athlete from Montana State to earn All-American honors, according to the university’s website.
